On Stand 5066 at MACH 2012, machine protection and bellows specialist Beakbane will be launching new products including walk-on covers, cable carriers and a vulcanised convoluted bellows.
The company will also show examples of lightweight lamella slideway covers for high-speed, high-acceleration machine tools and showcase its JIT manufacturing service for sheet metal fabrications, assemblies and complete products.
Beakbane’s newly expanded product portfolio follows an agreement with Wisconsin based A & A Manufacturing Inc. This means the company can now offer Beakbane products and bespoke systems for almost any requirement in machinery protection, bellows and cable management.
The new Beakbane Convoluted Bellows Tubing range includes bespoke and stock items.
Walk-on covers will be illustrated with a working system on the stand. Originally aimed at the machine tool market, these covers are now finding applications in other areas such as inspection pits and large chemical tanks. Where steel can’t be used, thermoplastic alternatives can be offered. These are complemented by a comprehensive range of steel and polymer cable carriers for applications as varied as large machine tools, paper mills, mining equipment and even theme park rides.
Heavy-duty moulded protective covers are available in a range of elastomers and elastomer-coated fabrics. A wide choice of elastomers, combined with fabrics that include nylon, Kevlar and fibreglass, mean Beakbane can offer bespoke convoluted covers for almost any application – including outdoor duty and severe environments, requirements that have to be airtight or watertight, round or rectangular shapes and applications that call for high extension ratios.
Convoluted moulded bellows are also available in stock diameters and lengths that can be customised for specific applications. For heavier duty requirements a neoprene/nylon combination is offered and for lighter duties where an aesthetic cover is required to provide protection from dust, grit or oil there is an elastomer range.

For long service life in abrasive environments, combined with a neat appearance, Beakbane Vulcanised Bellows are made by joining sections of elastomer-coated fabric. They are available in any size or shape, such as round, rectangular, strip cover or way cover. They are ideal for prototypes and low-volume products because there are no tooling costs.
Highlighting new developments in slideway covers for machine tool applications, Beakbane will be demonstrating its latest lightweight lamella covers. These combine the strength of a steel cover with the light weight of a fabric concertina cover, which makes them ideal for high-speed, high-acceleration applications. They are particularly suitable for applications in the vertical plane – which will be illustrated on the stand with an X-Y slideway cover that fits around the spindle of a horizontal machining centre.
Taking full advantage of its 28 square metre stand, Beakbane will be displaying examples of the large-scale fabrications it manufactures for machine tool builders, including a tool magazine fabrication for Heller and a sheet metal cladding set for a machining centre. Beakbane has made significant investments in new capital equipment, premises and staff to support its subcontract fabrication service. It can act as a supply partner from initial design to just-in-time delivery of finished products. The stand will feature a working demonstration of one of the products that Beakbane manufactures complete for a customer – a hot drinks trolley, which will provide visitors with refreshments.
Also on the stand will be examples of products from across Beakbane’s portfolio of machine protection products, including folding covers, bellows, concertina covers, armoured aprons and replacement slideway wipers.
